The Ford Torino was one of the iconic models from the muscle car golden era produced by Ford Motor Company from 1968 until 1976 to compete with Chevrolet, Dodge and other V8 powered automobiles. The 1970 version was all new and certainly is one of the best muscle cars of all time.

1970 Ford Torino Cobra
The Torino models have always been aggressive looking muscle cars, but the 1970 was completely redesigned and very successful version. The Ford designers were influenced by some of the supersonic air crafts when designing it. They laid the windshield back a little further, the rear window is almost flat and the nose is wider than the rear end, which reminds us of the SR71 Blackbird.
The functional shaker hood scoop not only provides fresh air for the 429 Cobra Jet motor, but also gives the 1970 Torino more racy look. Some of the other cool features are the twist type hood locks, blacked out hood, new unique grill, the 15-inch Magnum 500 chrome wheels, special suspension and more performance upgrades to let this muscle car not only go fast, but handle well around the corners.
Another one of the new things introduced to this model Ford muscle cars was the 429 Super Cobra Jet engine, which actually is completely different than the 427 and 428 engines produced in the late 60’s. This 429 cubic inch high performance motor has 10.5 to 1 compression ratio, produces 375 horsepower and 450 pounds of torque and although it is a bit bigger & heavier the 1970 Ford Torino Cobra could certainly keep up with the Mustangs and all other best muscle cars from its time.
